How to Fix Dripping Shifter on an ATC 250R

It is always wet around my shifter. If I wipe with a paper towel I can get some oil of the towel so obviously I have a leaky shifter. How do I fix a dripping shifter on an ATC 250R? Can this be fixed without doing a motor tear-down? It is not a major oil leak, but it is a nuisance and I assume it will get worse with time.

Many Thanks!

Sounds like the seal needs replacing. This can be done without opening the motor. Just order a spare shifter oil seal, when it arrives, just remove the shifter, then gently pry out the old shifter seal.

Clean thoroughly around the shifter stub and inside the area where the seal is going to sit. I always apply some light oil when I'm pressing a seal in, so I recommend lightly oiling both the shifter shaft (shifter stub) and the engine case then just press your new seal in with your fingers.

If it starts to leak again, you either installed it wrong, or there is some sort of imperfection on your shifter shaft.

Oh yeah.... then put your sifter back on in the same position you removed it and tighten it up!!
